Big changes are coming to Chester's much-loved Northgate Arena in Spring 2026, and we're super excited to share them with you! Thanks to a generous investment from Cheshire West and Chester Council, the arena will temporarily close from 6th January 2025 for a major upgrade. The Arena’s swimming pools will shut down from 23rd December 2024. This upgrade will make Northgate even better, providing the community with a fantastic space to keep active. Dive into a revamped pool area, featuring a brand-new, interactive water slide for family-friendly excitement. Plus, with upgraded viewing balconies and accessible pool pods, everyone can enjoy the water safely and comfortably.
refreshed gym with the latest equipment
Step into a new era of fitness with our updated gym, fully equipped with the latest machines and technology. The gym will feature improved lighting, advanced air cooling, and a dedicated changing area to ensure you stay comfortable while staying active.
sauna and steam room for ultimate relaxation
Relax and unwind in the upgraded sauna and steam room. These spaces will have private changing rooms and will be conveniently located with easy access to the pool. They're the perfect spot to de-stress after a workout, swim or maybe just a hard day.
family-friendly changing areas
Our changing areas are getting a complete overhaul! Expect family-friendly village changing areas with more privacy, accessible facilities, and comfort in mind. Poolside showers and separate spaces for gym and studio users make it ideal for everyone.

You’ll see brand new fitness studios, including dedicated cycling spaces, a multi-activity room and two cutting-edge fitness studios, designed with improved air cooling, modern lighting, and refreshed décor to inspire your workouts. From cycling to yoga, we've got a space for every activity.

We're also focusing on sustainability with energy-saving LED lighting, solar panels, and eco-friendly pool filtration systems. These green upgrades will help reduce our environmental footprint and keep Northgate Arena running efficiently.
